Semantic web-based supplier discovery system for building a long-term supply chain

چکیده
As companies move forward to source globally, supply chain management has gained attention more than ever before. In particular, the discovery and selection of capable suppliers has become a prerequisite for a global supply chain operation. Manufacturing e-marketplaces have helped companies quickly and effectively discover new suppliers and/or buyers for their products and services. However, as the requirements and capabilities in isolation, their true meanings may not be uniformly interpreted by each other. The issue of semantics between suppliers and buyers, then, remains an obstacle. The main objective is to propose a semantic web-based supplier discovery system for building a long-term strategic supply chain. Specifically, 1) a key ontology is developed to represent the supplier’s capability information and the buyer’s requirements; 2) supplier’s potential capability is reasoned; 3) and buyer’s requirements are semantically matched with supplier’s capability based on a similarity calculation. In order to build a long-term supply chain, the system receives supplier’s capability information composed of manufacturing capability, and nonmanufacturing capability. The supplier’s non-manufacturing capability is evaluated considering information on the supplier’s finances, customers, internal business, and learning and growth, based upon the Balanced Scorecard (BSC), which has been widely used to evaluate companies. In addition, a prototype for semantic web-based supplier discovery is implemented in order to demonstrate the practicality of the developed system.

Conceptual Framework of Supplier Discovery via Ontology-driven Semantic Reasoning
Due to market’s demanding needs of high quality and low cost products, global manufacturers must be competitive in forming and operating dynamic supply chains from raw material sourcing up to global retailing and marketing. This paper proposes a conceptual framework of ontology-based supplier discovery system that connects buyers with suppliers by employing manufacturing ontology and semantic m...
متن کاملResilient Supplier Selection in a Supply Chain by a New Interval-Valued Fuzzy Group Decision Model Based on Possibilistic Statistical Concepts
Supplier selection is one the main concern in the context of supply chain networks by considering their global and competitive features. Resilient supplier selection as generally new idea has not been addressed properly in the literature under uncertain conditions. Therefore, in this paper, a new multi-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) model is introduced with interval-valued fuzzy sets (I...
متن کاملAn Integrated Model for a Two-supplier Supply Chain with Uncertainty in the Supply
The objective of this paper is to study an integrated two-supplier supply chain whose suppliers are unreliable. An unreliable supplier is alternative between available (ON) and unavailable (OFF) states which are considered to be independent exponential variables. The suppliers apply a continuous review policy and the retailer uses an adapted continuous review base on an(R,Q) policy. Transportat...
متن کاملDesign of An Integrated Robust Optimization Model for Closed-Loop Supply Chain and supplier and remanufacturing subcontractor selection
The development of optimization and mathematical models for closed loop supply chain (CLSC) design has attracted considerable interest over the past decades. However, the uncertainties that are inherent in the network design are challenging the capabilities of the developed tools. In CLSC Uncertainty in demand is major source of uncertainty. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to present a Rob...
متن کاملAutomated Business-to-Business Integration of a Logistics Supply Chain Using Semantic Web Services Technology
In this paper, we present a demonstrator system which applies semantic web services technology to business-to-business integration, focussing specifically on a logistics supply chain. The system is able to handle all stages of the service lifecycle – discovery, service selection and service execution. One unique feature of the system is its approach to protocol mediation, allowing a service req...
